FAQs About Our Industrial Supplies

At Bohls Equipment, we understand the importance of heavy industry to the Texas community. Many companies across the region rely on industrial supplies such as ball bearings, roller chains, conveyor belts, chain sprockets, electric motors, and hydraulic fittings for their day-to-day operations. Generally, these items need to be constantly replaced in order to keep your equipment running properly. Unfortunately, not many places carry these types of supplies. Thankfully, we are your one-stop shop for all your industrial supply needs. If you’re interested in learning more, browse some of our FAQs below.

Ball Bearings
  • What are rod seals?

Also called shaft seals, rod seals are radial seals. They are press-fit into a housing bore with the sealing lip contacting the shaft.

  • What are bearing isolators?

Bearing isolators are dynamic seals that protect bearings from outside contaminants.

  • What does ultimate tensile strength mean?

It refers to the maximum load a roller chain can hold until it breaks.

  • Why should I buy a V-belt vs a flat belt?

The main reason that you should use a v-belt vs a flat belt is the slippage between the belt and pulley is lesser with v-belts.

  • What materials are v-belts made from?

The base material for v-belts is typically synthetic rubber. The rubber is often embedded in fibers to strengthen it.

  • What types of ball bearings are there?

There are a variety of ball bearings, and each has its application. Bearing types include angular contact bearings, deep-grove bearings, self-aligning ball bearings, high-speed angular contact bearings, linear bearings, and axial bearings.

  • Can bearings be refurbished?

Yes, but not always. For small bearings, it is not economical to refurbish them. It generally only makes economic sense to refurbish ball bearings that have 6-inch bores or higher.

  • What are ABEC ratings?

ABEC is the Annular Bearing Engineering Committee of the American Bearing Manufacturers Association. The ABEC scale is the industry-accepted standard for the tolerances of a ball bearing. There are five classes: 1,3,5,7 and 9. Higher ABEC ratings mean that they have better precision, efficiency, and greater speed capabilities.
